Welcome Class of 2023
To the members of the Class of 2023,
Welcome! When you arrive at the end of the summer, you will discover opportunities in Yale’s classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and studios. But you will also find that much of your learning takes place in other environments, from your residential college dining room to the courtyards throughout the campus. As you prepare for your arrival, use this site to orient yourself; it will provide you with information about Yale’s rich curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular life.
You will need to make some decisions before you arrive. These include, for example, whether to apply to special academic programs such as Directed Studies or register for one of the optional pre-orientation programs. You will also need to begin to think about the courses you plan to take in your first year. You will receive continuous academic advising once you arrive, but you will be well served if you read the information on this site over the summer. Even for practical information about moving, this site will help you make the transition to college.
Among the many people waiting to meet you are the head and dean of your residential college, the deans of Yale College, and the counselors, tutors, advisers, and members of the faculty who will all play important roles in your college education. We look forward to welcoming you to an academic community that will challenge you, inspire you, and help you to shape the rest of your life.
With best wishes,
Marvin M. Chun, Ph.D.
Dean of Yale College
Richard M. Colgate Professor of Psychology; Neuroscience; Cognitive Science
