Two Federal Regulations Governing Title IV Financial Aid Programs
Satisfactory Academic Progress
All degree seeking students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences must be making satisfactory academic progress in order to be eligible for any type of financial aid (includes federal Title IV). The following provisions are the general definition of satisfactory academic progress. Specific department provisions are included in the department section of the bulletin (https://catalog.yale.edu/gsas/degree-granting-departments-programs).
In each of the first two years, students must:
- Meet the High Pass average requirement for graduate level courses
- Satisfy academic degree requirements as defined by the academic program (see individual department requirements at https://catalog.yale.edu/gsas/degree-granting-departments-programs)
- Complete at least 50 percent of the cumulative attempted program courses for which a student has registered in a semester.
A student who is not in good academic standing with regard to coursework or research as defined by the standards above and the expectations outlined by the student’s department or program may be dismissed from the graduate school.
Department of Education Refund Policy
