Many instructors prepare packets of readings and other course materials for distribution to their students. In gathering and copying such materials, instructors are expected to adhere to any relevant copyright law and to the fair use provisions that may govern the use of copyright materials. Instructors are responsible for seeking permission (or having Yale Printing and Publishing Services or the selected copy shop seek permission) when fair use is exceeded. For advice on copyright generally or on making the determination of fair use, instructors should consult with the Office of the Vice President and General Counsel.
Instructors requesting copies from the copying services should ask that they be double-sided and on stock that is at least 30 percent post-consumer waste content in order to conserve natural resources.
