Academic field trips may be an important and enjoyable element of education, and instructors occasionally choose to include them as part of a course. Field trips, though not typically centrally funded, are, by definition, university-sponsored events, and so they must follow the set of guidelines governing field trips established by Yale College. These guidelines contain policies for both instructors and students. Instructors who are planning academic field trips should first review the guidelines, including the guidelines and registration requirements for overnight trips, and submit all relevant forms to the Office of Risk Management at least two weeks in advance of the event.
