Academic field trips can be an important and enjoyable element of education, and instructors occasionally choose to include them as part of a course. Field trips, though not typically centrally funded, are, by definition, university-sponsored events, and so must follow the set of guidelines governing field trips established by Yale College. These guidelines contain policies for both instructors and students. Instructors who are planning academic field trips should first review the guidelines and must then furnish both the relevant DUS and Risa Sodi, assistant dean of Yale College, with complete information about the trip and submit all relevant forms days in advance of the event.
