How to Enter Academic Events in Banner

The successful completion of graduate student events, such as qualifying exams, prospectus approval, candidacy admittance, and the completion of the language requirements must be recorded in Banner.

Most Common Event CodeS 

G01: Qualifying Exam Passed

G02: Prospectus Approved

G03: Admitted to Candidacy

G04: Distinguished Qualifying Exam (cannot be added if G01 is on the record)

G05: Language Requirement Completed

Bxx: Proficiency in [language]

HOW TO FILL IN THE BANNER SCREEN

To begin: log in to Banner, using this link, https://banner.yale.edu/applicationNavigator/seamless, and enter SYATCMT in the search field on the Welcome screen.

1. Enter the student’s SID in the ID field. In Level field enter GG. Hit "GO" or "CTRL Page Down" to navigate to the Academic Events Field.

 

2. To search for the appropriate Event Code - click the 3 dots to the right of the Event search field. Enter % and the first few letters of the event in the search box. Highlight the event you wish to add to the student record and click OK.

  

  

3. Once you enter the Event Code, the description will populate. Add your department code and the Effective Date and click the Save button or F10.

  

NOTE: To add multiple events, arrow down from the existing event to a blank line OR click the Insert button.

FOR STUDENTS IN COMBINED PROGRAMS

The second approver should modify the line already entered and NOT create a duplicate record of the same event.

To do so, add a slash line & department code in the department field and update the effective date.
