Revised Course Meeting Schedule, Effective Fall 2026

Beginning with the 2026-2027 academic year, Yale College, the School of Engineering & Applied Science, and the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences will follow a new course meeting schedule.

The current schedule offers many different meeting blocks, which are partially overlapping, underusing classroom space, and complicating students' schedules. This schedule has not kept pace with the number of courses now available to the student body, which has grown substantially in recent years.

With the new meeting schedule:

  • each day follows the same schedule
  • all meeting blocks either begin or end at the same time as other meeting blocks
  • shorter blocks are stacked within larger blocks
  • a consistent 15 minutes of transit time is provided between almost all blocks
  • courses that meet on consecutive days of the week (e.g., introductory language courses) may no longer be offered between 11:30 and 2:30 pm, but afternoon and evening blocks will now be available for these courses

What it means for you

Functionally, the course meeting schedule changes should not impact the work you do in WEN. You will find that WEN has been updated with the new meeting patterns, and you will be able to offer courses as you always have. See Setting Up Course Offerings.

The biggest change for Yale College courses only is that no more than 60% of a department’s or program’s courses may now be offered during peak demand for classrooms (10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). The University Registrar’s Office scheduling software will alert you when your offerings are approaching this limit. Refer faculty with questions about this policy to your DUS and Chair. They must determine which courses will be offered during peak hours.
